Kevin Owens’ attempts at pulverising Alex Riley were thwarted by Finn Balor on the latest edition of NXT.

Reigning NXT Champion Owens planned to powerbomb Riley onto the ring apron - a fate that has befallen both Sami Zayn and Adrian Neville - after beating the fan favourite in singles action, .

But before the Quebec powerhouse could strike, he was dropkicked by Finn Balor, the man he will defend his championship against on next week’s episode of NXT.

Owens scarpered before Balor could inflict further damage but must stand his ground on Wednesday when he puts his gold on the line for the first time since winning it from Zayn in February.

Elsewhere on NXT, which emanated from the LC Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio as opposed to its usual home of Full Sail University, Orlando, there was success for local lass, Alexa Bliss.

Bliss bested Sasha Banka via countout after hurling the Women’s Champion into the ring post, impressing NXT General Manager William Regal sufficiently to be granted a shot at Banks’ belt next week.

Tyler Breeze downed former NXT Tag Team Champion Kalisto after countering Salida Del Sol with Beauty Shot, while current NXT Tag Team Champion Blake rolled up Colin Cassady after the giant has been distracted by his valet, Carmella, slipping to the floor.
