Verdict

A very tricky finale in which the majority would have a chance on their best form. Most of these apprentices have plenty of experience with more than half unable to claim an allowance. One of those is Tom Marquand, who partners ALCATRAZ for George Baker. Successful in a maiden at Chepstow last year when rated a pound higher, he's been building to a big run in his three races this term and will profit if there is a strong pace. Lawyer wasn't winning out of turn at Ripon but steps up a grade of a 4lb higher mark. Hail Clodius was back to his best at Kempton but Van Huysen is better on Polytrack. Berkeley Vale may be in the handicapper's grip for now but Mezzotint is still capable on his day, though has never won over this trip on Turf.
