Verdict

DESCARO can get off the mark ahead of Country Road, Silly Gilly and Hurricane Thomas. Our pick hasn't been with this yard for long and is very nicely handicapped on last year's Irish form. Add that to the fact he ran his best race of the year when second at Pontefract and is unpenalised here, and the case for Kelly Harrison's mount is strong. Ronnie Barr won this last year so Silly Gilly is respected having bumped into a well-handicapped rival at Ripon. That was her first try over this trip and she got it well enough, although this is a stiffer examination. Country Road is an unexposed maiden who took third in a similar contest here on his most recent outing under this rider. Off the same mark it's hard to see him not featuring in this average contest. Hurricane Thomas is held by Mick Easterby's horse on the form of that race having taken fifth but he is a course and distance winner and there wasn't much between the pair at the death, so on the same terms there shouldn't be this time either. Mississippian returns to the trip that saw him make a winning debut for Aidan O'Brien back in 2007 but he's regressed since and couldn't be supported with any degree of confidence while Tres Froide is slipping in the weights and will receive assistance from the saddle, but Descaro looks poised to get off the mark at last.
