As a three-year-old, SIR EREC was third to Stradivarius over 2m in a Group 2 at Ascot. That was on soft ground so today’s conditions shouldn’t be a problem. He beat Tiger Tap Tap on his hurdling debut at Leopardstown and also in a Grade 1 at the same track next time when having six lengths to spare over stable companion Gardens of Babylon. A slight setback has failed to dampen enthusiasm for Joseph O’Brien’s charge, who is rated superior to Wednesday’s impressive winner Band Of Outlaws and can justify short odds. Authorizo could go well at a price on going that will suit but huge improvement would be required from the once-raced Pentland Hills and his stablemate Adjali has already had his limitations exposed. Paul Nicholls runs three but Quel Destin has done all of his winning in small fields and Pic D'Orhy is a recent arrival and hasn’t run since November.
