In depth

Verdict

Puy d'Arnac, Charlotte Vale and Casual Affair are the ones that catch the eye here, with Catterick winner Puy d'Arnac nominated to follow up that decisive success. Charlotte Vale always seems to run consistently, and he was in winning form last season. After a three month break after a couple of hurdling outings he ran well to be a good third at Pontefract. There is the feeling though that this trip may just stretch his stamina and he is opposed. Casual Affair looks sure to run a big race here. Successful at York in September, he won again at Wolverhampton in January, and has been placed recently. He may just prefer a faster surface than he encounters here though. Puy d'Arnac chased home Red Wine here two outings ago, and has since won easily at Catterick, clearly benefitting from his re-appearance run. He re-opposes Red Wine on the same terms here, with his conqueror having followed up at Pontefract, but then proved a disappointment over a shorter trip at Nottingham. Puy d'Arnac has the more attractive profile and can follow up.
