Verdict

This famous old handicap is as competitive as ever but Bravery failed to record another win after landing last year’s renewal. He’s 5lb lower this time, however, and may well confirm running with Donncha, Gabrial, Dolphin Vista and Withernsea but Danny Tudhope prefers stablemate Lord Glitters. The latter included the Balmoral Handicap at Ascot among three wins last year and is preferred to the well-supported Fire Brigade, who found Addeybb too good at Newmarket in September. William Haggas' charge has leading claims while Ballard Down ended last season prematurely with a soft-ground success at Headquarters in July and could also go well. Big Country has the advantage of a recent outing under his belt when scoring at Wolverhampton and LEADER WRITER will also be sharper for last month’s run at Lingfield. He won a decent handicap at Ascot in soft going last term having left France during the summer and Henry Spiller may well eke further improvement from him this season.
