Verdict

THUNDERBALL is a speculative choice to land this tough handicap. Head Down, Jack Cool and Legal Legacy are others with claims at this level. Legal Legacy still has plenty of scope for improvement and seems to be getting better with each run. However, he is now 7lb higher in the ratings after winning at Musselburgh at the start of June, so has a good deal more to prove this afternoon. Jack Cool is an unexposed handicapper that smashed a similar field at Yarmouth 10 days ago. He obviously holds latent ability but does need to prove that wasn't just a one-off performance. Head Down helps to make this a competitive race and his improving profile is quite tempting as a betting proposition. Ryan Moore keeps faith with Richard Hannon's colt and a big run looks assured. However, Thunderball has a similar profile but, having dropped to a very attractive mark, he makes more appeal for a punt. The son of Haafhd has responded well to the racing in headgear and, having performed well against a smart rival at Newmarket last week; it has to be of interest that his connections are keeping him busy while he is in the right frame of mind.
