Verdict

Jeff Pearce's Huntingdon hurdles winner Purely By Chance has not reproduced a similar level of form in two starts back on the level and she looks best watched in an event taken to go to CALZAGHE, who is marginally preferred to Pure Crystal. Mick Quinlan's gelding was good value for her win at Wolverhampton over 1m4f last month but that was in a seller and this is tougher, especially having been raised 3lbs for that Wolverhampton win. Michael Blanshard's Brad's Luck has slipped to a fair mark but is hard to back with any confidence on recent form, while Gay Kelleway's Free Falling is far from certain to stay this far. Star of Pompey should appreciate the drop in class having run in the Queen Alexandra last time but needs to step up on recent form and a better bet looks to be Jim Best's Calzaghe, who has been running consistently well on the flat and over hurdles of late and he looks worth backing to gain a deserved success.
