Verdict

The John Hills-trained MOUNT ATHOS is bound to be popular with backers following his eased down 11 length win at Haydock over 1m2f last week and he is hard to oppose over the extra two furlongs, even under a 6lb penalty, and gets the vote ahead of Il Portico and Baltimore Clipper. Paul Cole's colt has shown promise in his last four starts but remains a maiden and he may again have to settle for minor honours. The John Hills-trained Baxter has shown little sign of ability, while Jamie Poulton's Land Of Plenty has been well held in his last couple of starts and looks best left out of calculations. Pollan Bay was beaten a long way out in a seller on his reappearance and of more interest may be Mick Channon's Il Portico, who ran much better when a close up third behind Dubawi King at Hamilton last month. Mount Athos has an obvious chance following his win at Newbury last week though and is hard to oppose.
