In depth

Verdict

Double Spectre looks to hold a good chance and can get his head in front today, with his biggest dangers seen as Unsuited, Parisien Star, Catskill and Compton Court. The selection stepped up on previous efforts when making eyecatching late headway to finish second to Golden Applause at Epsom last time. Raised just three pounds for that, he will rarely get a better opportunity to earn some winning brackets and, all things being equal, should go well. Unsuited is back to the mark from which he won a Lady Riders' race at Kempton in April, so is entitled to some thought, and Parisien Star is still capable of a bold show from today's mark - the lowest it has been since 1998. He is very much respected. Dove Cottage has not run well recently, but did run well at this track last season, and would hold a chance based on that form, but first-time blinkers would have to bring about plenty of improvement from Lord Of Adventure for him to feature. Polish Power has a chance on his April form, and it's possible that Catskill and Compton Court could improve at today's longer trip. However, with the topweight, Toparudi, having something to prove at present, we return to the selection, which is Double Spectre.
