In depth

Verdict

Desert Soul makes plenty of appeal on pedigree being a Fantastic Light half-sister to a couple of winners but Mark Johnston's two-year-olds invariably need the run first time out and preference is for Narrjoo, who gets the vote ahead of Botham. The selection is a half-brother to Nassau winner Zahrat Dubai trained by Mick Channon, who is more than capable of producing a juvenile to win first time out and he would not need to be anything special to make a winning start here. Ed McMahon's Vauquelin could be of interest but the yard has been quiet this term so he may be best watched, while a market move for Howard Johnson's Akiyama would be of interest. Tim Pitt has done well with his small string this term so Botham has to be respected but Narrjoo makes plenty of appeal on his debut and he gets the vote.
