In depth

Verdict

A poor contest to end the day's proceedings with what can only be a tentative vote going to Fairly Smart, who is preferred to Cashel Dancer and Pink Harbour. The last mentioned was in good form earlier in the season but has paid the penalty at the hand of the handicapper for her efforts then and now looks to be a shade high in the weights. Tim Walford's Miss Pross has found one too good in each of her last two starts, latterly in a handicap at Southwell and while open to improvement needs to step up considerably to trouble the selection. Henry Daly has his string in good from now so Opera Hall has to be respected along with Robert Alner's Cansalrun, who has slipped to an attractive mark. La Marette has been performing consistently of late and is another worthy of a mention although a bigger threat may come from Cashel Dancer, who showed enough at Ludlow last time to suggest that a race of this nature would be within her compass. The vote though goes to Fairly Smart, who is less exposed than most of these and comes here on the back of an improved display at Plumpton last time.
