Verdict

Coalpark gets weight all round and can prevail over fellow three-year-old Somersault, with Cross The Line, Pillars Of Wisdom and Bee Stinger likely to figure. Mark Johnston regularly cleans up when pitching his three-year-olds in against their elders, and should entertain high hopes here with Coalpark who ran well in defeat at Musselburgh last time, considering that she was caught a bit flat-footed when they quickened for home. She displayed plenty of stamina when scoring at Carlisle the time before, and if allowed to dominate here, she can make the most of what is still a lenient handicap mark of 66 compared to last year when she started on 89. Somersault would not have stayed 10 furlongs in a horsebox at Ripon, especially on the soft ground, and is better judged on her earlier Thirsk victory. However, she has to give the selection 4lb and and that should tilt the scales in the latter's favour. Course-and-distance winner Cross The Line was badly outpaced when put back to seven furlongs at Redcar and will be more at home here, but is going up the weights, while both Pillars Of Wisdom and Bee Stinger have even more to do at the top of the handicap. The very lightly-raced Alpine Reel was useful last year, winning both starts, but has not been out since gaining the last of those successes in June 2005 and is best watched on his return, with Coalpark taken to make the most of her light weight.
