    Verdict

Generous Lad gets a tentative vote over Nightspot, with Mexican Pete and Lemonette making for a close encounter. Generous lad has been placed on a number of occasions this term, but has not scored since turning up here on his first start for Andy Haynes last December. In truth he has struggled off a 10lb higher mark, but judged on his latest effort when a close second at Salisbury, there is definitely another win in the locker. This moderate contest affords him the ideal opportunity, and he is the pick. Nightspot returned to form at Newbury in May, and has run well in defeat since. Still well treated compared to a couple of years ago, he looks a danger. Mexican Pete is a fair dual-purpose performer, and looked one to follow this summer when winning comfortably at Warwick, and although beaten twice since, is dangerous to leave out of calculations. Lemonette has a squeak on his close second to Wild Pitch at Lingfield in May, and all in all, just the narrow vote goes to Generous Lad.
