In depth

Verdict

There is plenty to recommend ILLUMINATIVE in this maiden and he gets the vote over Classically and Ask The Oracle. John Gosden has already been amongst the winners this month and Illuminative showed enough on his debut, despite running green, to make him the one to beat. He has the benefit of a good draw today and if he can build on his debut run when he was second behind Espero he should take plenty of beating. The horse that finished third in that race, Mr Udagawa, has since been out and won so the form does have a solid look about it. Clasically looks the main danger as he wasn't beaten far back in a maiden last time out. He had previously been a little disappointing in handicap company but he deserves to break his duck and he shouldn't be far away at the finish. Ask The Oracle showed promise on his debut at Wolverhampton when he finished second behind Smart Endeavour. He was no match for the winner that day but he was doing his best work at the finish and this slightly longer trip should suit. Bowsers Beau was well beaten on his debut at Sandown and on that evidence it is hard to see him troubling the judge here. We will stick Illuminative as the one to beat.
