Verdict

Machinate is selected to go one better at the expense of Vintage, Emma Jean Lad, Ganache and Hills Place. Machinate showed his best form for some time when finishing a close second in a Wolverhampton handicap eight-days ago, and off his current mark, could be worth supporting. He is well drawn in stall 11, and apprentice Liam Jones gets on well with the five-year-old, having ridden him to victory in the past. Vintage is the most recent winner in the line-up, having opened his account at the sixth time of asking at Wolverhampton five-days ago, but the step back up in trip is a slight worry at this stage of his career. In contrast, Emma Jean Lad clearly appreciated the extra furlong when a close second over the course-and-distance last week, and can again go well. Ganache was a beaten favourite in that race and looks held by Emma Jean Lad again on these terms, and of the rest, the maiden Hills Place should at least appreciate the drop back to a more suitable trip. However, it is Machinate that gets the nod.
