In depth

Verdict

A chance is taken with the hat-trick seeking Hail The Chief, whose tough, battling qualities may be enough for him to fend off Granston, while Sew 'N' Sewcharacter and Kruggerand have the form in the book to take a hand if they turn up and do themselves justice. Kruggerand has been expensive to follow over the last couple of seasons and is not one to be trusting blindly. But he does have solid claims if he puts in something like his best and can go close if he primed for his reappearance. Sew 'N' Sewcharater has paid his way in win & place money and has fitness on his side. A truly run race will bring the best out of him and, assuming that he handles an artificial surface, he has place solid claims today. Fellow all weather debutante Granston has also proved his well being this term and, as a versatile sort, he should handle the nature of this course. A repeat of his good second in the Spring Mile would make him a force to be reckoned with in this company and he is one to seriously monitor in the betting. However, Hail The Chief has plenty of experience under his belt and is going through a real renaissance period just now. He has won graded races in the States during his career and it is testament to his attitude that he is still thriving as nine-year-old. A revised mark of 88 is still lenient in comparison to the best of his form and it can pay to stick with Hail The Chief now that he has rediscovered winning ways.
