In depth

Verdict

Not too much in the way of form to go on but most eyes will unquestionably be on newcomers Kingsword, Almuraad and Warden Complex. The first two are trained by Sir Michael Stoute with Kingsword an $200 000 Dynaformer colt, while the Hamdan Al-Maktoum owned Almuraad is a Machiavellian colt who reached some 420 000 guineas at auction. Warden Complex is a son of Compton Place so there should be plenty of precociousness on view. Eternal Dancer has a distinctly American pedigree and while he makes some appeal; his trainer's newcomers have historically tended to need the run. Warif has certainly been bred in the blue and any market move for him would be interesting. John Dunlop's yard has posted a 21% strike rate with the juveniles and it is rumoured that there is plenty of decent ammunition still left at Arundel. Carry On Doc was unable to give away weight in a median auction race but gave the impression that there were contests to be won in the future. The market should offer the best ideas as to the winner but it is highly likely that Kingsword will be popular in the betting shops.
