In depth

Verdict

A cracking renewal with top-class filly Minding taking on the boys, including dual Derby winner HARZAND (NAP). The former has won a couple of Group 1 races over today’s trip since landing the Oaks at Epsom and looks sure to make a bold bid. But Pat Smullen will likely make full use of his mount’s stamina dropping back in distance and Dermot Weld’s colt will take some catching in the straight once sent for home. It’s interesting to see a couple of Arc de Triomphe hopefuls miss Sunday’s trials in France for this with French Derby winner Almanzor and last year’s Arc third New Bay both boasting high-class form while Hawkbill won the Eclipse at Sandown in July and struggled on the fast ground at York last time behind Postponed. Found, Highland Reel and 2014 winner The Grey Gatsby were all beaten in last year’s renewal and though My Dream Boat beat Found to land the Group 1 Prince Of Wales’s at Ascot in June, he struggled later in the Eclipse.
