In depth

Verdict

Cross Time gets the confident vote in this maiden with Barcardero and Trivandrun put forward as the main dangers. The selection hails from the Mick Channon yard and improved on his debut last year when a good second behind Mineral Star at Yarmouth last time. His breeding suggests that this step-up in trip will suit and he looks the one to beat. Trivandrun was well beaten on his racecourse debut over 7f on this track but he is from a top yard and he is entitled to plenty of respect, even though he has plenty to prove at present. Similar comments would also apply to the other Johnston runner Barcardero, but the market should be monitored for clues with regards to which of his two runners is most fancied. Dakota Blackhills looked a fair prospect on his debut at Doncaster when second behind Divine Gift, but for the winner we will stick with Cross Time.
