In depth

Verdict

All eyes here will be on AASHEQ, whose narrow defeat by US Army Ranger at the Curragh propelled the winner to the head of the Epsom Derby betting. Dermot Weld's superbly-bred colt attracted massive support that day on the back of excellent home work but just found one too good and compensation awaits. The winner's yard is represented by The Gurkha, who caught the eye in no uncertain terms when third to stable companion Claudio Monteverdi at Leopardstown. He'll have come on a bundle for that experience and should prove better than fellow Ballydoyle inmate Walk The Line, a 180,000gns foal by High Chaparral out of a 6f winner. Saafaar was well beaten in that latter event and is likely to do better in handicaps but the selection's stable companion Yasood is one to keep an eye on for the future.
