Verdict

Saphir Du Rheu is sure to be popular here having finished third in a Listed race at Auteuil in September on his hurdles bow when trained by Guy Cherel. It's hard to believe Paul Nicholls won't eke a little improvement out of his new charge but this is far from straightforward. Vasco D'ycy won a bumper in France and was second at Ludlow earlier this month while there wasn't much to choose between Bold Cuffs, Hector's Chance and Cropley on the Flat. The latter has already finished fourth over hurdles at Sandown but PISTOL makes more appeal as he went close on several occasions on the level when trained by Sir Michael Stoute. Though High Chaparral's progeny don't have a terrific record over jumps, Philip Hobbs' newcomer may have more speed than these if his jumping holds up.
