Verdict

Another open looking handicap to bring proceedings to a close at Gosforth Park but Golden Brief looks the one to be on. Karl Burke's charge has enjoyed a highly profitable campaign on the all-weather tracks this winter and confirmed his well being back on turf when a narrow winner from Technician and William's Well over this trip at Thirsk earlier in the month. The selection appeared to win a shade more comfortably than the official margin suggests and can confirm the form despite a subsequent 3lb rise against the placed horses who are both on long losing sequences. David Nicholls saddles Air Of Esteem and Sir Don who both have place propsects after recent wins but Mon Secret has been done no favours from the handicapper and was beaten off this mark at Southwell last time having scored at the same venue the previous month.
