Verdict

Connections will be hoping for the rains to stay away so Delegator can take his chance. Godolphin's entire showed sprinting was his game when getting the better of the frustrating Regal Parade in the Duke Of York Stakes and the 2009 2000 Guineas runner-up has solid claims here if the ground doesn't get any slower. Royal Ascot's Golden Jubilee Stakes could hold the key to this, however, as no less than eight of today's field were in opposition there. Monsieur Chevalier came out best and showed he was no back number when finishing just ahead of Star Witness, ELZAAM and Bated Breath. But Richard Hannon's colt had the best of the draw that day, whereas some of his nearest rivals were forced to plot a more circuitous route to reach the favoured far side and Amico Fritz was trapped near the stands rail. Roger Varian's three-year-old was the real eye-catcher as he finished with a real flourish after briefly getting outpaced. This stiffer track will play to his strengths and he could be the value, though David Simcock was delighted with Dream Ahead's run in the St James's Palace Stakes and he wouldn't be far away if back to his best.
