Verdict

King O' The Gypsies proved a costly failure last time when almost 3 lengths behind Woodcutter; the Gosden runner is taken to confirm the form and land this prize but a market move for Houghton would be of interest. Roger Charlton's colt ran an eyecatching race behind Pampas Cat on debut in April and attracted heavy support for his return to action at the July meeting. Although the ten furlongs is probably a bare minimum for him already, his performance was disappointing. It's possible that he may just have needed the run or found the trip to be on the sharp side but Woodcutter should also be suited by this better ground and step up in distance and he can shed his maiden tag here. Houghton was a short-priced favourite for his seasonal return in April but failed to run his race. He's been given plenty of time to recover and it would be no surprise to see this half-brother to Yellowstone fare better this evening. His chance must be respected. Optimus Maximus clearly has ability but none of the remainder make any great appeal and Woodcutter can fell the opposition.
