    Verdict

A few imponderables regarding how much ability and enthusiasm a few of these retain going into their three-year-old campaigns. However, Mandobi showed a good level of progression last year and he is given a marginal vote of confidence over Lake Garda and Morse, who have race fitness to boost their claims but look vulnerable to an improver at this stage. Harry Up should also pay his way as the season goes on as he is a tough and reliable sprinter that will be seen to better effect when the ground is a little less testing. Whereas it would be dangerous to rule out Promenade as the only blemish on her record came when she was hampered at the start in the Queen Mary at Ascot last June. It is doubtful that she would have beaten the winner on that occasion anyway, but there are sure to be a number of takers willing to give another chance today. However, Mandobi, who picks up 3lb more than his rivals because of his rating today, has already shown the best form up to press and, as a versatile horse regarding his best trip, he will be very hard to beat if, as expected, he is raring to go at the first time of asking this term.
