In depth

Verdict

Not much worthwhile form to go on and the vote goes to one of the newcomers, namely Candela Bay, ahead of Paddy Jack and Memphis Kate. William Haggas is not renowned for first-time-out winners but Candela Bay looks the part on breeding (related to plenty of two-year-old winners) and assuming that the market speaks in her favour then she is fancied to make a winning debut. Paddy Jack brings the best form to the contest but that doesn't say an awful lot, given that he was beaten behind a 58-rated rival at Carlisle before a dire run on the all-weather. Back on turf today, expect him to fare better but possibly find one too good once again. None of Richard Fahey's trio really stand out but watch the betting for clues, an idea that also applies to Ann Duffield's Bourbon Balistic. She has her horses in good form and her son of Piccolo should be respected on ground his sire adored. Memphis Kate hasn't set the world alight in two starts to date, and whilst better may be expected, we will side with Candela Bay as the selection.
