Verdict

Half-a-dozen of these are winners over the straight mile including FATHER BERTIE, successful a year ago and only 1lb higher. Tim Easterby's charge hasn't won since and is very closely matched with Normandy Knight after finishing a close third to Richard Fahey's charge here in August but will be primed for a repeat and is handed the vote. The latter's stable also has a fine chance with the very consistent Dawn Mirage, though he's 6lb higher than his last winning mark taking his rider's claim into account. Beardwood has only won once in his career but ran a cracking race at Newmarket last time and has surprisingly been dropped 1lb in the ratings. Fuwairt and Pumaflor fought out the finish of a qualifier for this in August and there's nothing between them again but Lawyer's recent victories have been at a lower level, a remark that also applies to Shamaheart.
