        Verdict

        Last month's Beverley winner Granston was engaged at Chester yesterday, where he faced a stiff task, and this is more his class. Johnny Lesters Hair is possibly a few pounds high in the weights at present though he wins his share of races. Pleasant Day didn't recapture his juvenile form last year which has enabled him to drop to a lowly mark and it would be no surprise to see him bounce back here but PRINCE OF JOHANNE looks the one to beat. Tom Tate's charge ended last season in winning form and looked better than ever with a smooth victory at Haydock on his return to action. He loves this fast ground and is probably capable of better. The ex-Irish White Diamond ran his best race to date for Malcolm Jefferson at Doncaster and is no forlorn hope nor is Dolphin Rock, who reappeared with a victory last season.
