In depth

Verdict

Stretton, Speed Gifted and Spanish Hidalgo are the three to look at here in this good handicap, and Spanish Hidalgo can make the most of his long haul from Arundel and collect the prize money. Despite his advancing years, Stretton showed he was no back number when scoring on his seasonal re-appearance. He was readily outpointed last time at Musselburgh, but he handles this sort of ground and should not be discounted although he may be high in the weights. Speed Gifted was nibbled at on his debut at Folkestone when coming clear in the closing stages. That was a fine display, albeit on a faster surface, and he is respected immensely. Spanish Hidalgo won well at Headquarters on soft ground last season, and was deemed good enough to take his chance in Group company on his next start. He shaped well on his return with a good third in a decent Sandown handicap and Spanish Hidalgo can pay the petrol money here.
