In depth

Verdict

Eden Rock had little chance from a wide draw in the Royal Hunt Cup last time and may be worth another chance, with Momtic and Helm Bank rated the main dangers. The selection was made favourite for the royal meeting on the strength of an impressive return following a lengthy absence at Goodwood and on that evidence he looks well worth another chance. Norton and Momtic are closely matched on running over course and distance in May, with the Willie Jarvis-trained colt, a winner at Epsom last month, fancied to take his revenge today. Ace of Hearts has more to do than when winning at Ripon last time and of more interest may be John Akehurst's Audience, who bounced back to form in good fashion at Salisbury last month. Little Good Bay performed with credit in the Royal Hunt Cup and has claims on that evidence, while it is interesting that Philip Robinson prefers St Andrews over Putra Pekan of the two Michael Jarvis-trained runners. Gerard Butler's Helm Bank bounced back to form when successful at Newcastle last month and is another to consider but the vote goes to Eden Rock in the hope that he can reproduce the form that he showed at Goodwood.
