In depth

Verdict

In a competitive opener, Wavertree Warrior is selected ahead of Waterside and Coeur Courageux. Now, Intoxicating is just a pound above the mark from which he won at York last year, but over six furlongs, and he's talented on his day. Coeur Courageux's previous trainer hailed him as a Group horse last year so it will be interesting to see if Dandy Nicholls can find the key to him. A return to the form that saw him win at Redcar last August would give Jalamid a chance, although more recent efforts wouldn't. Emilio is a Swedish raider that is hard to assess. King's Caprice, Sky Crusader and the course and distance winners Will He Wish and Waterside are not far above winning marks; Fiefdom is not out of it based on his best 2005 efforts; Guest Connections has been made to pay for his 2005 Group 3 win; Wavertree Warrior was not beaten far from his revised rating at Epsom last time, and this track will suit better; Moayed keeps threatening and will win a race of this type one day, and, despite the fact that he has only ever won at Brighton, Landucci's current mark seems a fair one. Clear as mud, eh? Wavertree Warrior is a tentative selection.
