Verdict

As ever the market should offer most clues but we will side with the claims of Scarlet Flyer over Eversden and Bling. Scarlet Flyer finished third when unfancied for a Windsor six furlong event on debut. On the face of it, that form didn't look too hot but it was more the manner that he went about his business once the penny dropped, that caught our eyes. If the penny has dropped, he is the one they all have to beat. Eversden comes here in preference to a hot maiden at Newbury on Saturday. Trainer Clive Cox is having something of a quiet season but the booking of Philip Robinson (who has a 40% strike rate for the trainer this term) is encouraging. Bling holds an entry in the Newmarket October Auction Stakes. A 20 000 guinea son of Mark of Esteem, he is related to a number of juvenile winners. Savannah Pride was sent off favourite for a Windsor maiden a couple of weeks ago. He looked to have an easier target at Lingfield over 6f on his latest start but looked pretty one paced in the finish. Kingsgate Prince is much better than his most recent all-weather form suggests. He had to be snatched up at a vital stage in that race and will be staying on here this afternoon. Prince Rama looked to be in need of the run when debuting at Windsor last month. The form of that race has not worked out too well so the market is best watched. Of the remainder, Patavian Prince showed a likeable attitude on debut at Beverley. There was no disgrace in being beaten by more experienced runners but that excuse cannot be used today. A tough opener to mull over but Scarlet Flyer is our selection.
