In depth

Verdict

This is a valuable contest for the track. Ryedale Racer unseated his rider when favourite here three weeks ago but would have beaten eventual winner Oak Vintage had he stood up. Samtu hasn't done a lot wrong so far but William Of Orange was a lucky winner at Catterick in January and beaten in a three-runner race here subsequently. Just Georgie is consistent but General Mahler needs to step up, as does Prince Khurram and the four-year-old Retro Valley. CAGED LIGHTNING has been placed in three of his four starts over timber and there's a good chance he'll find some improvement now he races on a faster surface as he won at Dundalk a couple of years ago.
