    Verdict

Only five run in the opener here, two of which are course and distance winners and it is GENERAL TUFTO who gets the nod ahead of Horseshoe Reef and Dzesmin. The selection is somewhat of a Southwell specialist and has four wins here already this year and although beaten favourite last time out he looks likely to add to his tally. Horseshoe reef a four-time winner in Australia returned from four months off to run a blinder on this British debut two months ago but the gelding has struggled to make the frame since. This race should be run to suit though and connections could see the horse back to winning ways if he can run to form. The rest are returning from breaks and will be appreciating the run but seven-year-old Dzesmin looks capable. The gelding who is returning from a four month absence was a winner last time out in November and has run well fresh in the past, the ground here should suit. This should prove to be a steady start to proceedings where General Tufto looks best.
