In depth

Verdict

This could rest between the three previous winners Saffron Sun, Why The Long Face and Chevalier Bayard, with the former just having the edge. Jimmy Frost's gelding was travelling best from some way out when beating Penthouse Minstrel at Exeter last time. The first two were well clear so the form does have a solid look to it. Penthouse Minstrel re-opposes today and will be another danger at the revised weights. Why The Long Face only landed a modest event at Hexham last time but did in fine style, driving past Dhaudeloup inside the last fifty yards. Chevalier Bayard gets into the handicap on bottom weight and must come into the argument following his emphatic victory over Our Man Dennis at Hereford last month. Of the others Lucky Do should be watched closely in the market, but for the winner we return to Saffron Sun.
