In depth

Verdict

Blazes Boylan, Public Esteem and Bluegun are all interesting recruits from the point-to-point world but Pressgang sets a fair standard and he gets the vote. Paul Webber's gelding showed decent form in bumpers, latterly when finding just Hairy Molly too good in the festival bumper. Having missed last season, the six-year-old has run to a decent level of form in two starts this term and is taken to open his account over timber today. Vic Dartnell's Lappeenranta has run encouragingly in both starts and should be thereabouts, while bumper winner Smart Tom could be of interest on his hurdling debut. Adroit Approach showed improved form on his first start for new connections last time and could be of interest but Pressgang has solid claims and he is preferred.
