In depth

Verdict

Mick Easterby has brought Gulf Of Poets back in top form having completed a double in fine style at Pontefract and Haydock, the latest at this level on soft ground. He's up another 7lb but is still likely to take some beating. But HUMBERT (NAP) completed a hat-trick on the all-weather over the winter before just touched off in a strong handicap at Doncaster then an even tougher race at Newbury where he couldn't quite hold Taqdeer. He deserves to get back on the winning trail and can defy another 3lb rise. King's Pavilion was behind the selection at Doncaster as was Original Choice but the latter, who won at this level at Thirsk last summer, is expected to get much closer this time. Mutamaded hasn't had much racing for his age and is still progressing judging on his victory at Ripon while Withernsea would have a chance second to none on his close third in a heritage handicap at Ascot last summer, especially as he's 4lb lower in the ratings.
