In depth

Verdict

A 9lb rise for finishing runner up in a maiden will probably scupper the chances of Johnston's Glory here and preference is for Machinate, while Under Fire will be thereabouts. The selection has rock solid form over this course and distance, and despite looking high enough in the weights and also drawn plenty wide enough, he is sure to give of his best and it is a poor contest, so he can edge it. Under Fire sprung a surprise when winning over a mile at Kempton last time and a 3lb rise is fair enough. Less appealing is his totally lack of consistency, and so if you chose to support him then we wish you good luck. Johnston's Glory looks harshly treated and Sarraaf looks a better option as one who has scored twice over the trip and whose last three winning marks were all higher than this. He could emerge as the most serious threat to the solid selection Machinate.
