Verdict

Plenty of suspect characters here so minimum stakes is the mantra and WESTER LODGE is the pick with Saloon and Thorny Mandate others to make appeal. Connections appear unclear as to Wester Lodge's trip but he had performed with some credit over course-and-distance in the past and at the likely odds, he makes some appeal in spite of never winning on an artificial surface in the past. Saloon won at Kempton under a canny ride. He is likely to be favourite even though he is plenty exposed in our opinion. Thorny Mandate is a fairly reliable creature who generally runs up to his form. Mark Usher had a winner the other day so watch out for any support for Calculating. Bold Adventure won over the extended two miles before putting up a fair effort behind Blockley next time out. It could be worth chancing that the Kempton effort was a bad day at the office. Kings Maiden is better known as a hurdler though she performed adequately over ten furlongs at Newcastle on her return to the level. Torrens has been something of a regular around Dunstall Park in the past. The handicapper appears slow to drop him down the weights. Wester Lodge rates the pick in a race where plenty have plausible if not shaky claims.
