In depth

Verdict

Regency Red gets the vote in the opener ahead of Itcanbedoneagain, Alexian and Integration. An amateur riders' selling contest is not exactly inspiring stuff to set the pulses racing, and only a small investment is advised on Regency Red who is a past course-and-distance winner. Mark Brisbourne's nine-year-old, partnered here by the trainer's son Ben, lines up on the back of a fair third in an apprentice affair at Hamilton just five days ago, and although he does not win too often these days, looks good enough to register a fourth track victory. Itcanbedoneagain has won over hurdles in the past, but on the level has never managed to succeed over further than nine-furlongs, while Alexian has definitely failed to progress since landing a Kempton maiden last December. Integration was slightly unlucky-in-running at Lingfield and takes a drop in class but has an absence to overcome, and for the winner we return to Regency Red.
