    Verdict

The Evan Williams yard have been flying of late and can strike again with the hat-trick seeking Mensch, who just edges the vote over Esterelle, whose penalty may stop her today, and Parsons Pride, who acted well here last time and should appreciate taking on this lesser company. There is a lot of deadwood to sift through in assessing the rest; of whom Silver Dagger and Tommy Spar make the most appeal. The latter also comes from a yard that are on the crest of a wave at the moment and, as he is unexposed at the trip, a bold bid cannot be ruled out. Whereas Silver Dagger would have come in for a more positive build up had he not run a stinker for Tony McCoy last time out. Esterelle is a dour stayer that has held her form well. However, she is not blessed with an abundance of speed and, as she was winning for the first time under rules in four years and a half years when scoring at Newton Abbot last month, she does not look an obvious candidate to follow up here. Which brings us back to Mensch, who is in the form of his life at present. The eight-year-old has a strong constitution for racing and looks worth persevering with until he takes on much stronger opposition.
