In depth

Verdict

This is a competitive contest to get proceedings underway at Worcester with plenty of the 14 runners having claims including Nautical Approach, Massams Lane and Dan Maguire, who have all run well in their most recent starts when being placed, and they all have to be respected but marginal preference is for RAIDER OF THE EAST. Formerly with Kevin Morgan, the selection now makes his debut for Tim Vaughan, who can very often improve other trainer's former runners, and it would come as no surprise to see Raider Of The East makes winning debut for new connections. Jonjo O'Neill's Victory Surge is lightly raced and needs to improve to get involved at the business end of the race but he may do better now sent handicapping. Tarkani is another that was placed last time and he has to be considered racing off the same mark today, while Laura Young's Wujood has more to do racing off a 10lb higher mark than when successful at Exeter earlier this month. Don McCain's Original Fly made a winning return to hurdles when successful at Aintree in November, was not disgraced on his subsequent start at Haydock the following month and he has to be of interest if ready for his reappearance. Preference though in a tough opener is for Tim Vaughan's Raider Of The East, who is taken to make a winning start for his new handler.
