Verdict

Michael Bell's Singspiel colt Monmouthshire is an interesting newcomer from a yard in form but he will need to be useful to get the better of Mont Etoile, who gets the vote ahead of Materialize. Being by Montjeu, the selection should improve on two-year-old form now that he tackles a more suitable trip and the William Haggas-trained filly is taken to do just that. Mont Etoile has a few pounds in hand over her nearest rivals on official BHB ratings with Mark Johnston's Raslan, who has failed to progress from a promising reappearance, and the reappearing Meantime both having 10lbs to find on those ratings. Congestion Charge showed promise on his debut at Lingfield and has to be considered as Ed Dunlop's horses normally improve with racing but a bigger threat is likely to come from Materialize, who ran better than his odds suggested that he would on his debut at two and should improve for today's longer trip. Mont Etoile has an obvious chance on official ratings over a trip that should suit though and gets the vote in the hope that he is fit enough to do himself justice.
