Verdict

CHAPERNO looks the call here for a yard in good form; the shortlist is headed by Alkhataaf, George Benjamin and Olympic Ceremony. The selection has finished second on his two runs to date, on both good-to-firm and soft ground. The winner of his last start ran well on Thursday in a conditions race at the July Meeting and his yard has a good strike-rate at the track with their juveniles. Alkhataaf looks a likely newcomer; Ryan Moore is a good jockey booking for a yard that has a much better strike-rate with their juveniles this season. This son of Green Desert is a brother to Shmookh and is bred to be very good. Nicky Lawes keeps the ride on George Benjamin; his first run was a gallant second to Farmer Giles at Ripon where he raced on the other side of the track and he cannot be overlooked despite the lack of a professional jockey on top. Luca Cumani is not known for debutant winners so Gold Rules's day may not this afternoon especially over this trip. Olympic Ceremony represents the yard who won this two years ago with Dark Tara and it is interesting that Paul Hanagan jumps off William Morgan to ride this son of Kyllachy whose third to Ceedwell reads well. Tribal Myth is a newcomer to watch for market support, whilst Tislaam and Paradise Spectre have both shown plenty of ability in two starts apiece. Market support for More Lashes would be of interest given that she travels a fair way for the race and her trainer doesn't send many up to the Knavesmire. The step up in trip should see her in a good light, however it is Chaperno who can get off the mark at the third time of asking.
