In depth

Verdict

A trappy event to sort through and with the stalls on the stand side, high numbers may have a slight advantage. Front-runner Rita's Rock Ape is well placed in stall 17 and she looks sure to run well, as does Talbot Avenue, who will get a good tow along from Rita's. He is only 4lb higher than his last winning mark and will have the assistance of the champion elect Kieren Fallon. Undeterred will get the strong pace he needs and could prove to be the pick of Dandy Nicholls three, but the vote goes to Kangarilla Road, who hit the front too soon at Newmarket. A winner over course and distance, he is taken to gain compensation here.
