Verdict

With many of the leading contenders drawn high, this is likely to be a rough old race; so it can pay to look for a bit of value in the betting. And DUNASKIN appeals as a wily enough character to cope with plenty of hustle and bustle. Kingsdale Orion, a stablemate of the selection, can help Brian Ellison play a strong hand, while supporting Riguez Dancer and Cheshire Prince would not be without foundation. The latter represents a yard that does well in this type of race but he seems to reserve his best efforts for the tight turns of the Chester. Riguez Dancer progressed nicely on the all-weather during the winter - racking up a quick-fire hat-trick at Wolverhampton and Southwell. This is much tougher, though, and from a 10lb higher mark; he now faces something of an acid test in handicapping terms. Kingsdale Orion is unexposed at the distance and shouldn't be underestimated. The recent rain will help him cope with the ground and he is capable of going close - despite the likelihood of long odds being available. Others to consider include: Manyriverstocross and Hillview Boy, who both have plenty of scope for improvement. Both should handle the going. The ex-French horse War Party has some useful form to his name and, having shown up nicely in defeat at Epsom on Derby Day; he could provide a surprise package for each-way punters. Gifted Leader has very few miles on the clock and is set to be partnered by one of the more accomplished riders. The gelding drops back in trip today, though. And his style of running may see him running out of time if he misses the break again today. Therefore, it can pay to take a chance with, Dunaskin, who, as a strong-galloping front-runner with plenty of experience of racing at the Knavesmire, has many of the prerequisite attributes for selection. This is Dunaskin's first try in an event of this nature but he can be fancied to be very difficult to peg back if he runs his usual race.
