Verdict

SEAWAY is the obvious one to side with in this ordinary (by the course standards) maiden. French Applause and Mutawarath have shown flashes of ability and are respected as the main dangers, while support for the nicely-bred Canyon Ranch would also be interesting. The last named made a satisfactory start in a similar race at Newmarket and wasn't given a hard time when his chance had disappeared. However, has a bit to find with Seaway on that running and needs to post a much improved effort today. Mutawarath ran with plenty of zest at Yarmouth last time out and, as the form is working out well, he is respected and looks good value to at least make the frame. Similar statements apply to the locally trained French Applause, who went close at Ripon on his debut last month. He does need to learn how to settle before he can be backed with confidence, though. Therefore, we turn to Seaway, who looks the more complete package at this stage. Having finished second on four separate occasions, the handicapper has taken a dim view with this son of Dr Fong and a mark of 90 looks very harsh. However, that won't bother Godolphin and, even though he is never going to be a star for the boys in blue, Seaway easily has the ability to win a race of this nature. However, it is also safe to say the drawing board might be thrown out of the window if the mount of Frankie Dettori fails to deliver the goods today.
