In depth

Verdict

Arbella has an obvious chance on form but the absence from the track of the best part of a year for Walter Swinburn's filly is of some concern and a safer bet may be Dakota Rain with Qaasi rated the pick of the remaining three runners. The selection stepped up on his debut effort when caught close home over this trip at Haydock by Khyber Kim at the beginning of the month. The Michael Jarvis-trained colt should have learned from that effort and is taken to go one better today. Topatoo ran with credit in a Pontefract nursery last time but this looks tougher for the Mark Tompkins-trained filly, while Alfred The Great is another without a recent start and does not look good enough anyway. A bigger danger then is likely to come from Mark Johnston's Qaasi, who should appreciate the return to this trip having seemingly failed to stay further on his most recent start. Arbella has the best form on offer but the lack of a run in nearly 12 months is a worry so preference is for Dakota Rain, who is taken to open his account.
