The athletics Diamond League meeting in Monaco will go ahead as scheduled on Friday despite the terrorist attack in nearby Nice.

At least 84 people, including several children, died after a man drove a truck through crowds celebrating Bastille Day along the Promenade des Anglais.

Monaco is 15 miles away along the Cote d'Azur, but the decision has been made for the meeting to proceed, although a number of changes have been made to the programme.

A statement from the event organisers said: "The Monegasque Athletics Federation, after concerting with its President, H.S.H. Prince Albert II, has taken the decision to uphold the Herculis meeting which will take place on Friday at the Stade Louis II in Monaco.

"This evening's programme will be kept strictly to the sporting events with no festivities.

"A tribute will be made to all the innocent victims of the Promenade des Anglais in Nice.
